Georgia Southern University students got out of the classroom during the Fall 2024 semester to perform more than 6,000 crucial hearing screenings for Chatham and Effingham County K-12 students.
In addition to their work within local schools, the RiteCare® Center also offers hearing screenings to the broader community. These screenings are part of the center’s ongoing mission to promote health, wellness and accessibility in communications for all.

Our New President, Dr. Jeff Smith
Meet our President, Dr. Jeff Smith, who has been a servant his entire life. He spent thirty-five years as a law enforcement officer in Georgia, retiring as a captain at a city police department in metro-Atlanta.
He currently serves as the Director of Operations for a prosecutor’s office in metro-Atlanta. Dr. Smith has also been very active outside of his career. He has served on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations and has served as an officer for two of these. His non-profit board experience includes being a member of the board of directors of Behavioral Health of Georgia, Inc.

The Foundation’s generosity allows us to provide service-based, experiential learning opportunities for our graduate students, who will enter the workforce one day as speech-language pathologists. They will be better prepared to serve the language and literacy needs of their communities due to the experiences made possible by the generosity of the Scottish-Rite Foundation. Our resources will not allow us to serve all those in need, but if we can equip others, then our reach expands exponentially beyond our own individual time and space.
